Advanced Communications Rep, responsible for Social Media

FirstEnergy

First job - I babysat throughout my teens, but my first "real job" was as a hostess and server at a restaurant in my hometown of Pittsburgh.

First Job in PR/communications - My first job after college was with Penton Media in downtown Cleveland. I was an account coordinator in the Custom Media department and helped oversee the production of digital and print magazines, white papers, email newsletters, microsites, etc.

PR strength - A real-time mindset. Social media and mobile technologies have forever changed how people consume information. It's our duty to regularly provide relevant, current information across a variety of mediums, and engage with our audiences quickly and effectively.

Favorite aspects of working in PR - Every day is different. There is always a new project or a new challenge to solve. It's impossible to be bored!

Fun recent/current project - Over the holidays we ran a "Merry & Bright" Holiday Lights Photo Contest on Facebook. Customers submitted photos of their homes and yards decked out in holiday lights, and the public voted to select the winners. A few customers definitely rivaled Clark Griswold.

Advice to other PR professionals - Be open to new approaches and technologies. We have so many tools available today to help tell our story - learn them and use them!

Traditional media of choice - Whether it's a trade publication or Us Weekly, I love to relax with a magazine in my hands.

Social media of choice - While I actively use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram, my favorite social network is Path. It has a simple interface that allows you to share moments with a max of 50 contacts. It's a great way to stay connected with a core group of people.

Best thing about Akron PRSA - There are many PR professionals in our area, but PRSA makes the community feel intimate and connects you with other like-minded individuals.

What would you do if you weren't in PR? I would be a full-time fitness professional. I'm a longtime fitness enthusiast and a certified Zumba® instructor. I love motivating others to maintain healthy, active lifestyles.
