Member Spotlight: Angela Bennett

Chapter Spotlight: Angela Bennett, Digital Marketing Specialist, NEOMED

First Job in digital PR/communications: I have been working in the digital PR world since my very first job after graduating college. My first position was at Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) in Washington, DC where I was responsible for web content production and several e-newsletters for different audiences, including one in Spanish, on a monthly basis.

Your proudest accomplishment in digital PR: This is a tough one as I have had several! I have been very fortunate to work on some amazing projects thus far in my career. I would have to say during my tenure at Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) when my team and I were nominated for a Webby Award, not once...but twice!

Favorite aspects of working in digital PR: I'd have to say my favorite aspect of what I do falls in the realm of the social media portion of my job. I really love being able to interact with people in real time, and watching a brand grow stronger through each interaction.

A recent/current digital PR project: Currently I am leading the development of new digital strategy efforts for Northeast Ohio Medical University. It's a comprehensive approach that includes launching a brand new website for the university, fine-tuning our social media strategies to really focus on prospective and current students, and working on creating a student ambassador social media team that will provide insights to prospective students and families on what life is like at NEOMED through their own words and experiences.

Why did you join the Akron PRSA Chapter? I got involved with the chapter because I thought it would be an excellent way to branch out of my circle, giving me the opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals that I could learn and grow from. My favorite part of being a member is exactly why I got involved. I've met many great people, attended some amazing events and have even learned a thing or two!

What do you do in your position as a board member of Akron Area PRSA and what goals do you have for this year? Currently I am the Vice President of Akron Area PRSA but I also work on sponsorships and serve as our social media specialist. This year I hope to really prepare myself to serve as President next year as it is a huge honor to be able to do so. I'm excited about the opportunity to play such a large role in an organization that is important to me!
