Ethics Month Update
The national theme for PRSA Ethics month this September has been announced: "Ethics: The Heart of Leadership."
PRSA's Board of Ethics and Professional Standards will host programs and webinars on ethics issues, especially targeting Millennials and how they view ethics in public relations. I'll pass along more information as these events are scheduled.
If you are curious or seeking information in the meantime, the PRSA web site has information on ethical behavior and case studies. From the homepage, find "ethics" under the major heading "Intelligence." Then click "Resources" for a listing of blogs, case studies, webinars, ESAs (Ethical Standards Advisories) and more.
Closer to home, Akron Area PRSA is fortunate to have an annual all-day ethics seminar hosted by Kent State University and presented jointly by Kent State and the Poynter Institute. The committee for that seminar/workshop is just beginning to meet, so I will have details in a coming newsletter.
Finally, Tom Duke, APR, Fellow PRSA, and I are seeking to bring ethics awareness to the October Akron Area PRSA Chapter luncheon, with a program on the ethics of political reporting and consulting. That should be timely this election year and, we hope, not too depressing.
More details on all of these initiatives will follow. But I wanted to keep ethics on your minds as we all confront sticky issues professionally and personally every day.
